Color Me Unimpressed

American Express Member Week is back, and through March 21 we have the opportunity to lock in on some sweet deals. At least that is what Amex is advertising.

Celebrating their 175th birthday, Amex has expanded the reward opportunities for personal and business card holders alike. I have to say, though, that I am underwhelmed by the offers. Most of these look like standard sale discounts, ranging from 20% to 30%, and Black Friday / Cyber Monday sales are likely to be greater. It feels as though this is just a means to get cardholders to access and review their joint offers with merchant partners, which Amex and/or their partners may feel are underutilized.

Color me unimpressed.

To take advantage of the offers, simply access the offer in the American Express app or on the website, add it to your eligible card between March 17 and March 21, and then use the card to pay by the stated expiration date.

Below is an image of the Member Week offers for personal card holders. There are a few additional offers available to business cardholders which seem more intriguing to me, such as $50 in statement credits for a spend of $200+ at Lowe’s (Lowe’s sells gift cards so the 25% discount is flexible in how it can be used) and $200 in statement credits for a spend of $1,200+ at Hewlett Packard.
